A Free Nation Under God

“When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers …”  ~ Proverbs 28:2

America’s Founders intended to create a nation of free people blessed by God’s providential rule and care. To this end, they implemented a system of constitutionally limited government based on the presupposition that its caretakers would be moral, religious, and in communion with God. Only by adhering to His Word can we live in a peaceful and productive way that doesn’t require or even allow a governmental monstrosity to grow and rule us instead.

With America’s increasing biblical illiteracy, though, we have disconnected from communing regularly with God, seeking to know Him through His Word and following His voice. As a result, we have increasingly looked to human government to fulfill many of God’s roles described in the Bible, allowing all levels of government to grow more powerful, corrupt, and secular. If we continue this trend, it can end only in the very tyranny our Founders sacrificed so much to prevent.

Instead, we must reconnect with God as a nation to reverse this trend and ultimately live in a free society where we can best serve Him, our families, and each other as He directs our consciences. This begins by immersing ourselves in His Word, communing daily with Him, studying His attributes so that we ultimately look to Him, not government, to rule and care for us. Only then will we be able to survive as the Founders intended, living humbly and with kindness toward others, building self-sustaining communities that love and support one another, naturally meeting the needs of the hungry, the elderly, the widows and orphans—and anyone else in need.

And government will naturally shrink back to its constitutional size so that we can live as a free nation under God again.

Heavenly Father, we bow before You, asking forgiveness for disconnecting with You and allowing government to take over Your role as our ruler in America. We pray that You would humble our entire nation, bringing us all to our knees in repentance. We pray that You would move in the hearts of everyone to reconnect with You and commune with You daily, seeking Your wisdom and guidance through prayer and studying Your Holy Word, and that together we would restore America to her biblical foundation for Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
