Tea Party for Christians: Site Launch!

  • $15.5 trillion in national debt and counting (really fast)
  • Tens of trillions of unfunded liabilities (future debt for which no money is set aside)
  • 35% of all U.S. wages in the form of government handouts
  • An incomprehensible 72,000-page tax code used to reward and punish political allies and enemies
  • Excessive regulations that cripple innovation and job creation
  • High unemployment, especially among racial minorities and young adults
  • Massive inflation on food and gasoline
  • Increasing dependence on foreign oil when we have all the energy we need to power the next generations under our feet
  • Undeclared wars with no end or discernible purpose
  • A “two-party” political system that offers only varying degrees of Big Government

This is America.

A nation poised to hand down to its children a level of debt, unemployment, and energy dependence so large that they will be forced to pay it off in blinding taxes and a loss of freedom they didn’t ask for and don’t deserve. A nation whose government has incrementally grown so big that our people now serve it instead of God. A  nation that has slowly shifted its house from the Rock of God’s Word to the sand (Matthew 7:24-27), primed to fall with a great crash when the severe storms fully hit, as they’re about to.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Though government has grown to a staggering size, flipping America’s original system of self-government so that We the People are now ruled by We the Government (instead of God), I don’t believe it’s too late to flip it back. We can again become a free nation that allows people to live their lives according to their consciences as God directs them. We just need enough people to understand how close America is to the brink of systematic collapse and being willing to do the hard things to pull us back.

Which is why I’ve launched Tea Party for Christians—your comprehensive resource for all things Tea Party and Christian.

The Tea Party principles of (a) Constitutional Adherence, (b) Limited Government, (c) Fiscal Responsibility, (d) Free Markets, and (e) Virtue and Accountability are all basic founding principles of America that also align with biblical scripture (see the Core Principles pages for a quick explanation) and represent our nation’s best hope for surviving our current crises and ultimately thriving as a free nation again—one that serves God, not government. With these principles in mind, my purposes in managing Tea Party for Christians are to

  • continually make the intellectual case for freedom and limited government from a Christian/biblical perspective;
  • build and organize a committed group of believers passionate about serving God by advancing the principles of freedom and limited government;
  • equip the faithful with the resources they need;
  • convince Tea Party and religious skeptics that they should join our cause;
  • bless the world as God commanded his people to do;
  • watch him work wonders.

Looking at that list of objectives, it’s hard for me not to laugh. Honestly, I never would have imagined—even only a few years ago—that I would be doing anything remotely like this. Especially considering that thirteen years ago I wasn’t even a Christian, and four years ago I had virtually zero political engagement and little understanding of American history. I have no formal religious education, no letters after my name, and no previous history of political activism.

So why in the world did God call me to start this effort called Tea Party for Christians?

Well, I couldn’t tell you; you’ll have to ask him about that. But I can tell you it’s the culmination of something he’s been building in my mind and spirit for the past three years since the Tea Party movement began. In my new book, Saving America: A Christian Perspective of the Tea Party Movement, I give a detailed account of my journey into becoming a leader in the Tea Party movement. Since then, as God has used my writing abilities to help advance Tea Party principles—which I believe align with Christian principles—he ultimately compelled me to take the next step and use those abilities to build and equip a group of believers through whom he could work to roll back the massive expansion of government control threatening every American, regardless of political beliefs.

I believe he has brought us to a pivotal point in American history, giving us a clear choice for our path ahead: Will we choose to turn back to him as our ruler, or will we look to an earthly king (i.e., Big Government) as our ruler (just as his people did in 1 Samuel 8, and then suffered severe consequences)? If the abuses listed at the top of this post—which both major political parties are responsible for—aren’t enough to make us choose God and finally push back against an out-of-control government machine, then those abuses will eventually seem tame, as that machine will be emboldened to grab as much power as it pleases, knowing that the people will never stand up to its despotism.

I don’t believe America’s going to make that choice, though. I believe enough of us understand—or will soon understand—that God’s people are called to follow him and bless the world, instead of allowing a corrupt, power-hungry government take over and run our lives—and eventually oppress us—as if God doesn’t exist. I believe that we will answer his true call, uniting and blessing the world by freeing them from the overreaching government that has brought America to the brink of collapse. Together, we will do the hard work to slowly rebuild our national house on the Rock of God’s Word, preparing us to not only survive the harshest of storms, but to emerge stronger after they pass.

The Tea Party plays a huge role in this. Though it’s not a religious movement by nature—it includes people of differing faiths and of no faith—many devout Christians have joined and believe they are serving God and blessing their neighbors by advancing core Tea Party principles. As do I. So in the coming days, weeks, months, and beyond (for however long God wants and allows me to), I will post news, commentary, information, etc.—anything related to the Tea Party or Christianity that will help build and equip the faithful to answer this great call God has given us all.

The only question I have for you at this point is, Will you join me?

I Share Sonnie Johnson’s Reaction About Obamacare Advocates Doing “God’s Work”

Recently, President Obama told his supporters advancing the cause of Obamacare that they are doing “God’s work.” It will surprise exactly zero of you that I wholeheartedly disagree that a government program eliminating health care options for struggling Americans, dramatically increasing their costs, reducing wages and the workforce, and forcing more people to depend on […]
